Drinking and driving charges have been laid against a Durham Regional Police officer following a multi-vehicle collision that occurred while he was off-duty last week. The incident took place just before midnight on August 5th in the area of Taunton Rd. and Coronation Rd. Police say a chain reaction collision occurred when a westbound Infinity sedan suddenly swerved and struck a vehicle travelling in an adjacent lane, then rear-ended a car stopped at a red light. 49-year old Basil Odei has been charged with driving while exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit and careless driving. Durham Regional Police say Odei has been reassigned to a non-frontline role; the charges against him have not been proven.
