Nuclear Alert Tests This Week

A test of the nuclear public alerting system is being conducted in Durham Region today and tomorrow. The system includes an automated telephone system and outdoor sirens. This week’s tests will not involve cell phone, radio, or television alerts. Today, an auto-dialer will call landline phones within ten kilometres of the Pickering and Darlington nuclear generating stations; tomorrow, outdoor sirens will be tested, sounding for up to one minute. The sirens will only be heard within three kilometres of the nuclear plants. You can get more details about the alerts online, at durham.ca
