Durham Regional Police officers took a woman into custody on Manning Rd. in Whitby early Wednesday, responding to a call in which it was alleged that she was carrying a large knife. The 21-year old allegedly attacked her parents who were in bed in their home in the area of Thickson Rd. and Manning Rd. at about 12:45am. The mother was not injured, but the father sustained several minor puncture wounds; neither required medical attention. The woman was apprehended at gunpoint, and will be charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and weapons possession. She was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
