Our Largest Feast -
The Nossa Senhora do Monte Festival is the biggest arraial (street party) on Madeira Island and it attracts thousands. We have been celebrating this in Ontario since the Purchase of the Park. (1963)
Hundreds of Portuguese families flood the Baldwin park to enjoy the fresh air, ambiance and celebrate our culture.
In this popular festival held in honour of the patron saint of Madeira, Madeira Park is decorated with traditional festoons of colourful flowers. Food and beverage stalls are set up where you can sample the island’s traditional boiled sweets, beef skewers, regional drinks and Malasadas.
Our event is one of the few Open-Air Catholic Ceremonies in Ontario - Novena Prayers, Candle Procession, Lively Procession - Special Nossa Sra. do Monte Mass
All through the night, people sing and dance to both traditional and modern rhythms.
