About The Event
An all-star Canadian cast of award-winning blues and roots musicians will perform in concert a special night honouring the music of STAX Records, the legendary Memphis recording company that brought you Sam and Dave, Otis Redding, Booker T. and the MG’s, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, the Bar-Kays and more!
Under the direction of Juno Award-winning producer and musical director, Lance Anderson, he will also bring together three legends of the ‘Toronto Sound’, The Blue-eyed Prince of Soul, George Olliver, (Mandala) the irrepressible John Finley (Checkmates, Rhinoceros) and Jay Douglas (The Cougars). These wonderful soul veterans, all grew up on this music. They are the real deal! Add extraordinary singers Cheryl Lescom and young Kitchener ON phenom Matt Weidinger and you have a show not to be missed.
It is a very rare occasion to get all these wonderful artists on stage together. Featuring Memphis-born drummer Shamakah Ali (The Bar-Kays, Al Green) on drums laying down that fat southern backbeat and Collin Barrett on bass, with Toronto veteran guitarist Terry Blersh (Danny Brooks, The Royals) Simon Wallis (Lighthouse) saxes, Dave Dunlop (The Boss Brass) trumpet and musical director Lance Anderson (Joint Chiefs of Soul, Shakura S’Aida) on piano and HammondB3 organ, this is truly an all-star performance.
