Oshawa mayor John Henry has announced he's throwing his name in the hat for Durham's Regional Chair position. Henry officially filed his nomination papers yesterday. Durham's first Regional Chair, Roger Anderson, held the position in 1997; he passed away in March of this year. Henry was elected as a Regional Councillor in Oshawa in 2006, and became mayor in 2010. In 2014, he was re-elected with a solid 49% of the vote. Henry said if elected, his priorities will include the release of provincially-owned lands for employment development along the 407, cutting hydro rates, and advocating for the elimination of tolls on Highways 412 and 418. John Mutton is the only other declared candidate for the Regional Chair position so far.
