Next week the Community Development Council Durham and Durham Mental Health Services are spearheading an initiative called the Point in Time Count and Registry Week. The plan is to enumerate and survey the homeless population in Durham Region. North House in Uxbridge will open its doors next Wednesday from 9am to noon to provide breakfast, hand out surveys, and to try and get a handle on ways outreach services could better benefit those in need. Mona Emond from North House says their organization is focusing on working with town councils in Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge to find ways to provide shelters, low income housing, and emergency housing in North Durham. Emond says in North Durham homelessness often goes unnoticed because people couch surf and are not as visible as they are in the cities.
