It's the first day back from March Break for students in Durham Region, and police begin a week-long traffic safety blitz around neighbourhood schools starting today. Traffic Services and divisional officers will be focusing on all types of aggressive driving behaviors and offences, including speeding, stop sign and traffic light offences. Special attention will be paid to distracted driving, the use of hand-held devices and seat belt related offences. The goal of the annual “In the Zone” enforcement campaign is to ensure high officer visibility and proactive enforcement in and around school zones during the first week back to school. Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to look out for each other with the increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
