The Durham Regional Police Services Fraud Unit has been receiving numerous inquiries from victims of fraud who have received letters advising them of a settlement between Western Union and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Recent settlement with the Western Union Company resulted in a refund program which entitles victims who utilized Western Union to pay fraudsters of lottery and prizes, family emergencies, advance-fee loans, online dating and other scams, with compensation. The Fraud Unit confirms this is a legitimate settlement and an opportunity for local fraud victims to get compensation. You can get more details by visiting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online, or by calling DRPS.
