Durham Regional Police Service's Fraud Unit has issued a warning to residents about telephone scams. Recent incidents have been reported involving callers claiming they are from the Canada Revenue Agency, or in some case, impersonating police officers. In one scam the caller says a relative is in custody and they are asked to send money electronically to have them released. In some cases, the suspects have sent a taxi to the victim's residence to to transport them to a bank. Residents are reminded to use caution when personal information is requested over the phone, and to contact the Anti-Fraud Centre if you believe you are being scammed.
