A surge of asylum seekers crossing the Canada-US border in Quebec has prompted the Canadian military to build a camp with tents that will accommodate up to 500 people. The Armed Forces confirmed in a statement yesterday that the shelters will be equipped with floors, lighting, and heating. The camp will be situated on a converted, private campsite near a Canada Border Services Agency processing centre. A spokesperson said that there are currently 700 people waiting to be processed who have crossed at that location alone.
