Toronto Police Officer Michael Theriault and his brother Christian appeared in court for the first time yesterday. The two men are accused of assaulting Whitby teen Dafonte Miller on December 28, 2016. Miller's lawyer alleges he was left with broken bones and injuries that will require the removal of his left eye. Michael Theriault was off-duty at the time of the incident; he and his brother were arrested in late July. A judge approved new terms of release for the two men yesterday; they are no longer subject to an overnight curfew or prohibited from drinking alcohol. Theriault has been suspended with pay while he awaits trial. None of the allegations against the men have been proven in court.
