Major Rehab For Supreme Court Building

The Federal Government is launching a $1 billion rehabilitation project for the nation's crumbling Supreme Court building. The announcement comes amidst concerns that a water-damaged section of the parking garage roof could collapse by the end of next year, and mechanical and electrical systems are expected to fail within the next five years. The rehab improvements aren't scheduled until 2023, in part because the offices and chambers need to be relocated to a building across the street which also needs extensive improvements. The Supreme Court building has been in operation since 1939.
