Officials are warning that water levels could continue to worsen before they get better in southern Quebec, as towns between Montreal and Quebec City are seeing the effects of floodwaters flowing downstream. Fisheries and Oceans Canada is predicting that water levels in Lac St. Pierre, about 60 kilometres northeast of Montreal, could increase by 15 centimetres by tomorrow. Water levels are already 1.8 metres higher than usual, and high tides have forced many communities to declare a state of emergency.
