Gas Prices Soar

Gas prices jumped an average of 6 cents per litre overnight at stations across south Durham Region. In Uxbridge, some pumps are now as high as $1.20/l. Analysts say the price hike is the result of refineries, suppliers, and retailers making an annual change-over from winter-blended fuel to a summer blend, which is required to be in place by Saturday. The summer fuel is better able to withstand hotter temperatures and prevent damage to vehicles. Average prices have soared nearly 20 cents per litre compared to this time last year. The new carbon taxes mandated by the Province are also responsible for higher prices in 2017.
