One person is dead, and dozens have been treated in hospital after a chemical spill on Highway 401 yesterday east of Kingston. A code orange was declared, as Kingston General Hospital treated the incident as an external disaster, setting up a decontamination bay for patients. At least 30 vehicles were involved in the pileup, resulting in a leak of fluorosilicic acid from one of the trucks, a toxic substance that can cause irritation to the respiratory system, among other ailments. The driver of the truck carrying the hazardous substance was killed. At least ten first responders also had to be treated in hospital.
